Torino Osteria Italiana: something Tribbiani in Gunawarman

An unplanned night stroll in Gunawarman Street and a spontaneous resolution for the growling tummy brought me to end up in Torino Osteria Italiana. To be honest, at first I have no intention of dining there. But then I was attracted by the black and grey logo of the monumental Mole Antonelliana, which is the iconic landmark building in Torino city. As if it wasn’t clear enough (considering the name and the logo), what’s better to acquaint the passersby that this is an Italian Osteria.
That classic Italian feel can be immediately noticed from the very first steps I took inside. Combining the broad straightforward square space with square wooden tables, it attributes a simple minimalist ambiance. Meanwhile, the dark green walls, the green plaid table cloths donate a masculine finishing to the whole look.
Complimentary cheese sticks, breads with balsamic vinegar and olive oil..
It's a pity that they don't have any food pictures in the menu. However, they hang it up on the walls instead
The bar and the wine shelf.. Could it be more masculine?
Remembering that this is an osteria (a place that serves simple food and drinks), the whole dining experience was meant to be casual and homey. There’s a reason why I chose the word Tribbiani for the title of this post, as I felt like a Tribbiani gone mad at that point. I skipped the antipasti and moved straight forward to the secondi, while my companion picked a pasta dish for a safer choice. To avoid an ugly fight between two Tribbianis, we agreed to order a pan of pizza for sharing.. (Yes, Tribbiani doesn't share food)

Napoli (65k). Italian tomato sauce, mozzarella, anchovies and oregano as the toppings..
We were both in the mood not to play it safe. Instead of ordering a pan with typical ham toppings, the idea of having this authentic anchovies pizza intrigued us. Thin crispy slices of good wooden oven baked pizza, its excellence has put both of us in silence. The infused aroma from the anchovies could definitely be smelled from the very first bite. I distinctively remember how Jamie Oliver said that the aroma from little bit of anchovies can give the whole plate a whole new twist without making the eater realizing that it's there. It's true on some level.

However, the bites would get too salty when you hit the spots where the anchovies were put, as it is a result of the salted process beforehand for the tiny fishy bombs. Despite its uneven salty distribution, this pizza still represents true Italian flavor.

Amatriciana (65k). Imported "de cecco" spaghetti, homemade tomato sauce, pork bacon, fresh Italian basil, and spicy chili

The pasta was definitely al dente. Meanwhile, the sauce was both very light and subtle. Truly emits how authentic simple Italian pasta supposed to be. As if the cook let each ingredient to harmonize itself without putting too much hand on the process, it was definitely different from the pungent pasta dressing that is usually served in other restaurants.

Triglia Al Sapore Di Mare (95k). Red mullet fillet with cherry tomatoes, white wine, fresh chili,  served with caponatina.
As much as I like to have something unusual, I regretted the decision of ordering this dish. Alas, I have to admit my disappointment. First, the fish was quite fishy. The di mare sauce, which was supposed to be garlic tomato sauce, was over dominated by the garlic. Hence, instead of finding the balance between the herbs and the white wine, the garlic mostly prevailed. Secondly, for the price of 95k, this dish didn't serve enough justice for my satisfaction. I could score a better sophisticated meal with the same price at other restaurants.

On the other hand, I love the sided stack of caponatina. Collaboration of cold chopped eggplants, olives, and celery contributed a substitution of what I would call a boring salad.

It should be noted that we gobbled everything right away. Overthrown with a full belly and happy smiles on the face. It's a shame that I didn't get the chance to try out some of their coffee, though. It was a bit late and I didn't want to make myself alerted for the night.

Pidza Inc. One of a kind Pizza!

Pantai Indah Kapuk has been one of my favorite destinations for hanging out with my friends. The continuous growth of new cafes and bars with competitive concepts gives you plenty of choices of where to have a quick bite and spend your evening with your companies. Besides, my house is quite near to that area, so I have been enjoying the 'non-traffic-it's-so-near' advantages.

I think it's a great destination for hanging out, but I am not sure that all of those restaurants, cafes, and bars serve you with great or even decent food.. Some even serve questionable drinks. My friends and I can guarantee you that we have become victims of the attractive concepts given by the cafes. It's so deceiving that when we found out about the quality of the food or drinks, it's such a major turn off.

But don't lose hope. The other reason why I keep going back there is because there are still some places that serve decent yummy food. Like tonight, for instance.

I have been passing by Pidza Inc. for months with no intention of trying it. Why? The answer is simple.. The place is not attractive enough. Compared to the other cafes, Pidza Inc. must definitely play catch up with the other cafes if they wanna attract more customers.  In another way, I think it's quite secluded cause it is located in the less crowded area. Pardon me for being that shallow, but in my defense, my eyes are locked to the new comers who keep giving grand eye-catchy touches to their places. It's too many that I don't have the chance to try it all and Pidza Inc. seems to be buried under the spotlight. Well, let me make it clear to you that I am not a high-end freak who only wanna eat in hip cool places. If you have seen my instagram pictures, then you will know that I spend most of my time eating food from street hawkers. Yet, I am only human.. and sometimes I do have my flaws.. Getting attracted to something eye-catchy is one of it. ;p

Well, tonight, one of my friends recommended this Pizza place. Whenever there's good food, I am down for it.. So here it goes..

Australian Pizza (49K). Thin crust pizza with a sunny side up, bacon, and hash browns. Well, the menu said it's hash browns, but it's basically small pieces of potatoes. The taste? YUM.. I love it.. It's also quite cheesy, which is a super positive plus point..
American BBQ Pizza (52K). In a way, I like this better than the Australian one. There's something about the tomato BBQ sauce that made me crave for more. In terms of presentation, this one is less attractive. They only give you two pastrami and two hams. But again, the sauce itself is a flavorful explosion..

Penne Pollo Al Fredo Creama (37K). My friend ordered this so I only had a bite. Definitely better than Pizza Hut's bland pasta.  This one has a creamy fragrant, served with pieces of chicken..
The funny and unique thing about Pidza Inc. is that they have choices of Pizza with international flavors. From Indian curry pizza to oriental pasta, their menu is filled with diverse flavor from all over the world. I didn't take a picture of the menu because at first, I thought we were only getting a quick bite. But after tasting their pizza, I changed my mind and decided to write a good review about this place. Oh, and when I stepped inside, the first thing I noticed was the smell of cheese filling the whole place! As a cheese lover, I am loving it..

I definitely am going to go back to try their other pizzas. Am quite curious for their Indian Pizzas.. To sum up, I do recommend this place for all of you thin crust pizza lovers.. Be adventurous with your choices and order something unusual from your daily preference..

Oh, it's not new information that Pluit PIK area is the nest of Indonesian Chinese, especially Medanese..
Medanlang Pizza.. LOL.. We were laughing to ourselves when we saw this on the board.. Medanlang means medanese in hokkien. Good game to step it up, Pidza Inc.. Good game indeed..

to convive...

Yes Yes Yes.. I love hanging out, whether it's with a large or small group of people, I just love to hang out..
A few weeks ago, I spent my Saturday night with my big sis's friends.. We went to Convivium to try their food..

And it struck me. I was curious what convivium means.. Well, I suppose it came from the word convive, which means an eating or drinking companion, can also be interpreted as a banquet or a feast.. Okay, enough of the split second of literature enlightenment.. As a literature student, I guess I miss being a literature junkie..

When I first walked into the place, I got that humble warm comfortable kind of atmosphere. The thing is the place is just an ordinary house, decorated to the max, which I think is very smart.. I am kinda sick of going to fancy overrated places where the waiters don't even bother to get what you want.. For a change, it's very nice to visit Convivium. It's so humble, not sure you can use that adjective to describe a place, but I couldn't get any other words that I think suit this place best..

rustic menu.. Just how I like it..
They also sell different types of cheese..
Affettati E Formaggi, I remembered watching Jamie Oliver saying that term.. They are the types of cheese and ham that they have.. Truth to be told, I don't understand a thing except parmigiano, mozzarella, and pancetta.. lol
Pretty lamps
Simple cute decorations
The decorations aren't fancy but they're too darn cute
Our table is next to this huge black board.. We were intrigued at an instant to order this dessert..
Group photo.. I'm the youngest of the bunch
Took away their red velvet cakes for my sister's friend..
Mediterranean Salad (35k).. I love how they use enough balsamic to season things up.. They use tuna on top.. The onions are definitely not your usual onions.. They're very fragrant and spicy.. I am an onion lover, so yes I love it!
THE BEST MUSHROOM CREAM SOUP (35K) IN TOWN.. It's so thick and warm, aaaaah, it's heaven.. lol.. Imagine a bowl of love, well this is a bowl of love..
Tagliatelle Porcini (80K).. Another type of pasta, tagliatelle.. porcini is a type of mushroom..  My sis's friend said it's nice..
Rigatoni Della Nonna (105K) I love how generous they are with the cheese..
Straccetti Cream Mushroom (100k) It's so creamy, it's to die for.. But if you eat a portion alone, you'll get quite sick of the creaminess. I think it's really delicious! But I couldn't finish this alone, I think it's best for sharing..

Rigatoni Salmone (85K) Another creamy pasta. It's yummy, but once again, if you are not accustomed to eating  creamy food, I suggest you share the meal.. What I love about this type of pasta, all those creaminess is saved inside that hollow space.. Creaminess in every bite..
This is what I ordered, it's Tagliata con Grana el Balsimico (130K). Three words.. I. LOVE. IT. It's very fresh! The  beef is medium well, so tender it literally melts in your mouth.. The tomatoes and balsamic vinegar are a perfect match and it balances out the whole dish.. After trying out creamy pasta, I still able to finish this meal all by myself..  I love how they include salad in the dish, so healthy..
Nananana... This is the dessert which is on the big board next to us.. Gelato Sorbetto Sampler (70K). It's definitely something else.. I am sick of the whole rainbow red velvet cake, so we decided to order this instead..
Starting from the left side, we have chili, bacon, lychee, earl grey, lime rosemary, vanilla balsimico, red velvet, orange basil, squid ink, and last but not least, risotto mascarpone .. FUNKY INDEED.. not your everyday dessert for sure.. I love the lime rosemary. It's quite bitter but I love how fresh it is.. My sis loves the earl grey flavor.. Well, the bacon flavor is just too funky for us.. But one of my sis's friends loveee the chili flavor and finished the whole think.. spicy.. :p
I definitely recommend this place. I think it's a very nice place to have simple yummy creamy fresh Italian dishes.. I love the place, I love the atmosphere, I love the whole concept of the place.. and once again I love how humble it is.. Really a nice place to hang out and laugh your times out with your loved ones..
